Course overview:
This unit standard is designed for people working (or being trained to work) in the extractive industries. This unit is required by First Class Mine Managers, First Class Coal Mine Managers, and Mine Surveyors.
It enables learners to understand why “old workings” (abandoned or earlier mined areas) are hazardous and to evaluate and explain plans to manage those hazards, including flooding (inundations).
Also covers how to safely approach, work through, and plan infrastructure for working in or near old workings.
Key Learning Objectives:

methods for safely approaching and working through them. - Explain the type of infrastructure and plans required to safely work in proximity to, and
through, old workings at extractive sites. - Evaluate the hazards and causes of inrush and inundations and explain methods for risk
